DAILY PRAYER FOR XX OCTEMBER 2020
WELCOME
Daily Prayer is offered focusing on a theme for each day of the month. On occasion, the theme for another day may be used if more fitting.
Daily Prayer begins with silence for meditation and centering. The Angelus may be offered.
The Memorial of the Incarnation: The Angelus
In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
The Angel of the Most High appeared to Mary,
And she conceived by the Holy Spirit.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessèd art thou amongst women
and blessèd is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
And Mary said, “Behold the handmaid of our God.
Be it unto me according to your Word.”
…Hail Mary
And the Word became Flesh and dwelt among us
Full of grace and truth.
…Hail Mary
Give thanks, O most holy Mother of God,
that we have been made worthy of the promises of Christ.
Pour forth into our hearts, O Holy One of Blessing, the abundance of your grace, that we, to whom the Incarnation of Christ your Son was made known by the message of the Angel may by his Cross and Passion be brought to the glory of his Resurrection; through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.
Day 1 - The Advent
Preparation
XO God, make speed to save us.
Make haste to help us, O Most High.
Glory to the Father, and to theXSon, and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning is now and will be forever. Amen. Alleluia!
The Song of Baruch Baruch 5.5-9
1. Arise, O Jerusalem, stand upon the heights: *
look to the east and see your children,
2 Gathered from the west and the east *
at the word of the Holy One.
3 They rejoice that God has remembered them *
and has returned them to you.
4 For they departed on foot,
led away by their enemies;
5 But God will return them to you,
carried in glory, as on a royal throne.
6 For God has ordered that every high mountain *
and the everlasting hills be made low,
7 And the valleys filled up to make level ground *
so that Israel may walk safely in the glory of God.
8 The woods and every fragrant tree *
have shaded them at God’s command.
9 For God will lead Israel with joy in the light of the divine glory *
with unending divine mercy and righteousness.

A Reading Zechariah 2.10-13
Sing and rejoice, O daughter Zion! For lo, I will come and dwell in your midst, says the Lord. Many nations shall join themselves to the Lord on that day, and shall be my people; and I will dwell in your midst. And you shall know that the Lord of hosts has sent me to you. The Lord will inherit Judah as his portion in the holy land, and will again choose Jerusalem. Be silent, all people, before the Lord; for he has roused himself from his holy dwelling.
Reflections
Holy God, have mercy.
The Hymn
The Prayers
Holy God, have mercy.
Holy Christ, have mercy.
Holy God, have mercy.
The Our Father Either
O Hallowed One, in whom is heaven,
Everlasting, beyond time and space:
may your justice and compassion reign over all,
the blessing of your name echo throughout the universe,
and your will for peace and freedom sustain our hope
and come upon the earth.
With the bread we need for today, feed us.
In the hurts we inflict on and absorb from one another, forgive us.
In times too hard for us to bear, spare us.
From the grip of all that is evil, free us.
For you reign in the glory of the power that is love,
unto the ages of ages. Amen.

The Collect
Give us grace, O Holy God, to cast away the works of darkness, and put on the armor of light, now in the time of this mortal life in which your Son Jesus Christ came to visit us in great humility; that in the last day, when he shall come again in his glorious majesty to judge both the living and the dead, we may rise to the life immortal; through the same Christ our Lord.
Amen.
A Prayer of Intercession
Keep watch, dear Lord, with those who work, or watch, or weep, and give your angels charge over those in need. Tend the sick, Lord Christ; Watch over those who, both night and day, work while others sleep, and grant that we may never forget that our common life depends upon each other’s toil. Give rest to the weary and bliss to the departed, bless the dying, soothe the suffering, be compassionate to the afflicted, shield the joyous; and all for your love’s sake.
Amen.
A Prayer in the Time of Corona/Covid
Keep us, O Loving One, within the embrace of your Compassion. As we journey through this uncertain time of Corona, sustain and support the anxious and those who live with fear and in the shadow of death; be present to the lonely and isolated; be present with those who care for the sick and those who put themselves at risk to meet our needs. Lift up all who are brought low, comfort the dying, and give rest to the departed. Speak to our hearts the truth of your heart that this too shall someday pass and that we may find comfort knowing that nothing can separate us from your love in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Amen.
A Prayer Attributed to St. Francis of Assisi
Lord, make us instruments of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let us sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is discord, union;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.
Grant that we may not so much
seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen.
A General Thanksgiving
We give you thanks, O God, for all the blessings and challenges of this life, for the gift of this day, for our love for each other, and for your love for us. Teach us gratitude for all we have, both physical and spiritual, and grant us generous and kind hearts to love you and walk in the ways of Jesus. This day, I/we give you hearty thanks for _________, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Silence is observed by the ringing of a bell. During the Silence, one centers the self as best one can and sits in the Presence of God without motive or intercession.
The Regina Caeli
Hail Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy,
Our life, our sweetness and our hope.
To you we flee in this our sojourn of sorrow and joy.
Turn then, O most gracious Advocate,
the eyes of your mercy towards us
and when we have passed through this life
show to us the blessèd fruit of your womb, Jesus.
O Loving, most Peaceful, O Sweet Virgin Mary,
Give thanks that we have been made worthy of the promises of Christ.
The Dismissal during Ordinary Time
Let us bless the One who dwells within.
Thanks be to God.
May the souls of the faithful departed
through the mercy of God rest in peace.
And may light perpetual shine upon them. Amen.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God,
and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with us all evermore.
Amen. 2 Corinthians 13:14
